Guitar Tap is developed by Dolce Sfogato (David Smith). This policy explains how the Guitar Tap editions handle your information — the native app for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, the free browser app, and the open-source desktop edition (Windows, macOS, Linux). All of them analyze audio on your own device and collect no personal data.
Guitar Tap does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal information. All analysis happens on your device. We have no servers, no user accounts, and no analytics or tracking of any kind.
Guitar Tap uses your device's microphone to capture the sound of a tap on a guitar, plate, or brace, and analyzes that audio in real time to compute a frequency spectrum and related measurements. This audio is processed entirely on your device. It is not recorded for transmission, sent to us, or shared with any third party.
When you choose to save a measurement, Guitar Tap stores the results (frequency spectra, computed values, chart images, and any name or notes you enter) locally on your device, in the app's Documents storage. Depending on your device settings, your operating system may include this data in your own iCloud backup or iCloud Drive. That data remains under your control through your Apple account; we have no access to it.
If you export or share a measurement (for example via AirDrop, the Files app, iCloud Drive, Mail, or by saving a file to disk), the file goes only where you direct it. These actions are initiated by you, and the data is never sent to us.
In the browser app, saved measurements are stored locally in
your browser (in its IndexedDB storage) — they stay on your device and are never
sent to a server. Because a browser can clear this storage — Safari deletes it after roughly a
week without visiting the site (on both macOS and iOS) — installing the app makes storage durable, and
Export All lets you keep a portable backup. Any
.guitartap file you export goes only where you send it.
Guitar Tap does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to the developer or to third parties. Specifically, the app:
The app itself does not send your data over the internet. The only network activity occurs when you choose to open the online User Manual, which launches your device's default web browser to a page hosted at dolcesfogato.com. Standard web-server logs for that website are governed by the dolcesfogato.com website, not by the app.
The browser app is downloaded from dolcesfogato.com like any web page (standard web-server logs apply to serving those files); once loaded it runs entirely in your browser — capturing and analyzing audio locally and sending no measurement or audio data to us or to anyone else.
Guitar Tap does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised effective date.
